Maude sat at the dresser, taking off her earrings. A presence shimmered nearby, just barely discernible. Addressing it, she said, “Harvey, do you know, Lucille stole Joyce’s meatloaf recipe. The nerve!"

Harvey flickered a sigh. He should never have tried to comfort Maude after the accident. It had always been easier to do what Maude wanted and, well, Maude had wanted him to stay. So here he was. She was treating this like the next phase of their marriage.

“Harvey, are you listening to me?”

And, as he had many times before, Harvey Beckman - the only ghost in the world to be haunted by a human - replied, “Yes, dear.”
